Best to you!

Sees the hand-writing on the wall for rural hospitals in the next few years. Smart move for him.

Canyon Vista has lost a very good leader. Always was very caring and interested in things that were in need of improvement. Hope we can find someone to take the reins as good as he was. TMC is lucky to have him!

Sunday evenings storm caused over 1400 power outages: The Whetstone area and other locations lost power shortly after 6pm as the storm system moved through our area. SSVEC crews worked to restore power as quickly as possible in the Whetstone and Palominas areas with most power restored by 10:30pm. APS crews also worked to repair damaged poles and restore power in the Douglas area. We are grateful for the efforts of those working to keep us safe in this severe weather.

PRE-SCHOOL GRADUATION NIGHT: Saturday Night Conscious Child Preschool & Learning Center celebrated the end of their third school year. With 20 children ages 3-5 in program, they sent off 12 graduates heading off to Kindergartenat at the Cove in SierraVista. This has become a graduation tradition. The little yogis showcased their yoga routine, sang their zoophonics song, and ended with a choreographed dance to Shakira’s Waka Waka. Everyone enjoyed a nice, relaxing evening at the Cove.

Conscious Child wanted to especially thank KE&G for working so hard to get the pool back up and running. Shout out to Cove staff member Brandy for excellent customer service. It was truly a miracle!

Brad and Jess Dale, owners & teachers of Conscious Child Preschool & Learning Center have over 30 years of combined experience in early childhood education. They opened the learning center in April 2022. Located in Hereford, off Ramsey Road.

Conscious Child prepares preschoolers by teaching phonics , math, science, spanish and sign language with yoga philosophies and social emotional learning at the core. They provide a nature-based global education and teach environmental consciousness.

The school believes in educating the whole child; mind, body and spirit.

They offer evening mindfulness classes for kids ages 5-10 with more wellness classes on the horizon for adults.

THE INSPIRING STORY OF ALVIN SCARBOROUGH WITH A LOCAL CONNECTION: Cullen Scarborough of Sierra Vistas great uncle was a WWII POW (Bataan Death March) who made the ultimate sacrifice in captivity. His remains were identified and in March travelled back to Mississippi to repatriate his remains, a testament to the power of perseverance. The Patriot Guard Riders of central Mississippi escorted his remains 220 miles from Memphis, TN to Carthage, MS, a poignant display of respect and gratitude, and he was finally laid to rest.

Cullen was contacted in 2016 via Ancestry.com by someone contracted by the DPAA in effort to contact family members of his great uncle in order to obtain DNA, a crucial step in bringing Uncle Alvin home. Scarborough submitted his DNA and emailed or called at least once a month for updates, a demonstration of his unwavering commitment. He finally got the official word last year his remains were identified, a moment of profound relief and joy.

This was a deeply personal mission for Cullen and his wife Melissa, both Army veterans, who were driven by a sense of duty and loyalty. Cullen retired in 2012, and two of their children are Army veterans, a testament to the familys legacy of service. It had been their mission since 2016 to bring Uncle Alvin home to inter him in the plot his great grandparents reserved for him in 1944 when Alvin’s youngest brother passed away from cancer, a dream finally realized.

An interesting part of the story is that Alvin’s brother Gene, a Marine, had also been captured and sent to the same POW camp as Alvin. In a remarkable twist of fate, Gene heard there was another Scarborough there too, sought him out, and discovered he was in fact his brother Alvin. Alvin died shortly after, but Gene survived and was sent back home after Cabanatuan was liberated. Gene’s son, Mike, attended the funeral for Alvin in Mississippi with the Scarboroughs and other family members in an emotional homecoming. When they presented the flag to Cullen, who was the official primary next of kin, he in turn presented the flag to Mike so that he could take it home and display it next to his father’s flag, a heartfelt gesture. It seemed only fitting that the brother’s flags stay together. After the funeral, Cullen said (with a tear forming),“mission complete,” a moment of profound closure.

Cullen Scarborough is the dean of military programs and workforce development at Cochise College, a fitting tribute to his familys legacy.

The official story of Alvin Scarborough below:

The remains of U.S. Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Alvin R. Scarborough, who died a prisoner of war during World War II, were interred March 29 at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Carthage, Mississippi, a final resting place.

A native of Dossville, Mississippi, Scarborough was a member of 454th Ordnance Company (Aviation), when Japanese forces invaded the Philippine Islands in December 1941. He was among thousands of U.S. and Filipino service members who were captured, subjected to the 65-mile Bataan Death March, and interned at POW camps. He died a prisoner of war July 28, 1942, at age 22, a tragic loss.

Scarborough was accounted for by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Sept. 21, 2023, after his remains were exhumed in 2018 from the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Philippines, for laboratory analysis and identification, a remarkable achievement.

The Past Conflict Repatriations Branch, under the Army Casualty and Mortuary Affairs Operations Division at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky, plays a key role in the process of locating family members of missing Soldiers from WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, a vital mission.

The process begins with locating the family member most closely related to the missing Soldier, known as the primary next of kin, followed by a request for family reference samples or DNA, which are used as a main source in identifying remains, a painstaking process.

Once a Soldier has been identified by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner, the PCRB notifies and briefs the family about the results of historical, forensic, and DNA reports, benefits, and the mortuary process, including burial with full military honors, a dignified tribute.

🚨WHETSTONE 911🚨A fire in Whetstone at Madison and Washington, Presidential Estates Area(at 1:15am Sunday) Some people reported hearing large explosions. Emergency services are on site.

A resident in the area told Coolfmlive "CCO have the road still blocked and there are a ton of trucks up there. Looks like something flared a bit. I think at least 3 or 4 propane tanks blew and what sounds like a ton of ammunition blew off in the beginning."

Please post your pics and videos in comments and keep our followers posted with new information if you live in that area.

COVE WILL RE-OPEN SUNDAY (JUNE 1st 2025)

The usual Summer Sunday hours and activities will be in effect tomorrow morning. Lap Swimming and Water Walking will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Open Swim from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

For those of you who are interested and technically inclined, here is a little more information courtesy of the KE&G foreman and John Healey, City of Sierra Vista Sports/Aquatics Supervisor.

KE&G responded to The Cove early this afternoon to repair a serious water leak. The cause was the outside water line, entering the building, developed a rupture in a 3 inch PVC elbow. (See photo with its crack, lower left.)

The new elbow is being prepared (lower right). Both of the corners of the new elbow, will now have a Smith and Blair coupler; this will make the junction stronger. (The Smith and Blair couplers are in the center picture.) The previous joint did not have the Smith and Blair couplers, thus a contributing factor to the breakage.

Those of us who use The Cove, especially now that the hot weather is here, certainly appreciate the rapid response of the City to have it fixed. Of course, the KE&G staff who took their day off to get the popular pool going again, many thanks!
