🚨 Two-Vehicle Crash Involving Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputy 🚨

A Sierra Vista man was arrested for a DUI after crashing into a Cochise County Sheriff's Office vehicle shortly after midnight.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, at about 12:10 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a traffic collision between a black sedan and a fully marked CCSO patrol vehicle near the intersection of Coronado Drive and Fry Boulevard.

A CCSO deputy was driving westbound on Fry Boulevard, enroute to the 500 block of 7th Street, when a black Hyundai sedan failed to yield while making a left turn from Fry Boulevard into a business driveway near Coronado Drive. The deputy’s vehicle collided with the sedan, resulting in major damage to both vehicles. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for further treatment.

During the investigation, SVPD discovered that the deputy was responding to assist Sierra Vista police with a foot pursuit following a reported vehicle burglary. The deputy was not operating with lights and sirens and was driving above the posted speed limit.

The driver of the sedan was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and open containers of alcohol were located inside his vehicle. The driver of the sedan was arrested for DUI, and a search warrant was obtained for his blood. After the blood draw was complete, he was released from police custody to obtain further medical treatment. Charges against the suspect are pending the results of the blood analysis.

A joint investigation of the collision is ongoing by a regional reconstruction team with personnel from both the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and the Sierra Vista Police Department. In accordance with standard procedure, each agency is also conducting separate investigations.

This is an ongoing investigation, and further information will be released when available and appropriate.

In a competitive four-team 12U division, these young athletes played an incredible five games in just two days — and their performance was nothing short of dominant.

📍 Game 1: Defeated El Paso, 43-0
📍 Game 2: Defeated South New Mexico, 83-0
📍 Game 3: Faced El Paso 14U, fell 34-18

From the first whistle to the final snap, these girls played with heart, grit, discipline, and relentless teamwork. Their energy on the field was matched only by the way they carried themselves off it — representing Southern Arizona with pride every step of the way.

Rings earned. Trophy secured. Memories made.

And they’re not done yet. The Copper Queens will now compete in the Arizona Cardinals Regional Tournament on March 14 in Phoenix as they continue their journey in the NFL regionals.

🔥 FOR IMMEDIATE R

🔥 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 🔥

The City of Sierra Vista has announced that controlled burns will begin Tuesday, February 24, at the Environmental Operations Park.

Starting Tuesday and continuing for several weeks (weather permitting), the City’s Public Works Department will conduct weekday controlled burns at the Environmental Operations Park (EOP), located at 6801 Highway 90 in Sierra Vista.

What to Expect:
• Burns will take place on weekdays
• Operations begin in the morning and typically conclude by noon
• Schedules are weather-dependent
• Daily updates will be posted on the City’s Facebook page on mornings when burns are planned

These burns are part of routine annual maintenance for the City’s wastewater treatment facility. According to the City, the controlled burns help:
✔️ Reduce mosquito populations
✔️ Clear dying vegetation to promote healthy new growth
✔️ Aerate soil ahead of spring

Residents on the east side of Sierra Vista may see smoke that could be visible from several miles away. Officials emphasize this is planned activity and not an emergency situation.

For more information, residents can visit the city website at:

AMERICAN PRIDE🇺

AMERICAN PRIDE🇺🇲OLYMPIC 2026 PHOTO THAT WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY🥇24- year old Jack Hughes scores the winning goal in OT for team USA Sunday as he loses a tooth in the process. All this came on the very same day 46 years ago today team USA won the Miracle On Ice game electrifying a nation in 1980.

🇺🇸 Team USA made history: 🥇 12 Gold Medals — a NEW all-time record for the winter olympics (breaking the previous record of 11)
🏅 33 Total Medals — 2nd overall

📊 Early viewership data showed a 93% increase over the Beijing Games, helped by a more favorable European time zone. Yet social platforms didn’t seem to light up the way they usually do.

One possible reason? Audience behavior is shifting: 📱 Under-35 viewers are moving away from multi-week event engagement
🎬 Short-form, fast content is replacing long viewing windows

👥 According to sproutsocial.com 61% + of ALL social media users are Gen Z (30%) and ages 25–35 (31.6%), which may explain the lower long-form Olympic chatter.

🥇 Team USA Gold Medal Highlights Included:
• Men’s Ice Hockey — Gold medal overtime victory
• Women’s Ice Hockey — Gold medal win
• Men’s 1000m & 500m Speed Skating (2 Golds)
• Slalom & Alpine Combined (2 Golds)
• Women’s Figure Skating
• Mixed Team Aerials — Gold medal
• Team Figure Skating — Gold medal
• Breezy Johnson: Womens Downhill Skiing
• Elizabeth Lemley: Women's ski moguls.
• Alex Ferreira: Men's ski halfpipe.
• Elana Meyers Taylor: Women's monobob.

🤔 Did the Games feel quieter on your feed this year?

Did you watch more, scroll more, or miss some of the big moments?
