⚡ SSVEC MEMBERS TO SEE NEW “REST” BILL CREDITS BEGINNING IN JUNE ⚡
Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) members will soon begin seeing a new line item labeled “REST” on their monthly electric bills — and for many members, it means added relief during the high-cost summer energy season.
According to SSVEC, the Arizona Corporation Commission recently approved the cooperative’s request to eliminate the Renewable Energy Standard Tariff (REST) surcharge and return existing REST funds directly back to members through bill credits and local renewable energy investments.
Beginning with June billing cycles, members will start seeing credits applied through the Wholesale Power and Fuel Cost Adjuster to help offset increased summer electricity costs.
SSVEC says the changes include:
✅ Elimination of the REST fee from member bills✅ Creation of a $2.5 million renewable energy grant program✅ Return of approximately $7 million to members through bill credits
The cooperative says the average residential member is expected to see approximately $10 per month in summer bill savings.
“These funds belong to our members, and we believe the best use of the money is returning it in a way that provides meaningful relief when electricity use is at its highest,” said SSVEC CEO Jason Bowling.
In addition to direct bill relief, SSVEC plans to launch a renewable energy grant program aimed at supporting schools, nonprofits, municipalities, fire districts, and other qualifying organizations across southeastern Arizona. Eligible projects could include solar installations, battery storage systems, and other community-focused renewable energy improvements.
SSVEC officials say the overall plan is designed to balance immediate financial relief for members while continuing to invest in long-term energy reliability and local community projects.
Members are expected to begin seeing the REST credits and related billing adjustments starting with June electric bills and continuing throughout the summer months.
For additional information, members can contact their local SSVEC office or visit SSVEC’s official website.

🚨 TWO INDIVIDUALS ARRESTED DURING SWAT MISSION IN HEREFORD 🚨
The Sierra Vista Police Department announced Wednesday that two individuals were taken into custody during a SWAT operation carried out in Hereford Tuesday evening.
According to the Sierra Vista Police Department, the Cochise County Regional SWAT Team responded to the 7300 block of Lariat Road on May 19 at approximately 5:30 p.m. to serve arrest warrants on two individuals identified as Fabian Barquez-Martinez, 32, and Ayla Adams, 21.
SVPD stated that investigators elected to utilize the SWAT team and issue a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents due to safety concerns and one of the suspect’s prior history of fleeing from law enforcement.
The Sierra Vista Police Department stated in its press release:
“Due to an abundance of caution and one of the individual’s history of fleeing from law enforcement, investigators chose to use the SWAT team and issue a shelter in place to the immediate area during the operation.”
According to police, both individuals complied with commands and surrendered peacefully during the mission. Authorities say the shelter-in-place order was lifted once both individuals were safely in custody.
According to information released by SVPD:
• Fabian Barquez-Martinez, 32, was booked into the Cochise County Jail on warrants for:
- Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement
- Endangerment
- Unlawful Imprisonment
- Failure to Appear
• Ayla Adams, 21, was booked into the Cochise County Jail on a warrant for Failure to Appear.
The Sierra Vista Police Department further stated:
“Adams was booked into the Cochise County Jail on a warrant for failure to appear out of Maricopa County. Martinez, who fled detectives during an attempted traffic stop on May 5 and who did not give the passenger a chance to exit the vehicle before fleeing, was booked into the jail on warrants for failure to appear, unlawful flight from law enforcement, endangerment, and unlawful imprisonment.”
