🕊️ COMMUNITY MOURNS THE LOSS OF SERGEANT IVY NICOLE UNRUH 🕊️

Family, friends, fellow veterans, and community members continue to mourn the tragic loss of Ivy Nichole Unruh, who passed away on April 18, 2026, at just 25 years old.

Known affectionately by many as “Boogie,” “Beastly,” “Bitely,” “Brooklyn,” or simply “Kid,” Ivy was remembered as a beautiful soul whose kindness, compassion, and generosity touched countless lives. Those who knew her describe a young woman who lived with purpose, loved deeply, and always put others before herself.

Ivy proudly served her country in the United States Marine Corps for four years, earning the rank of Sergeant before transitioning to the active reserves. Her dedication to service extended far beyond her military career. She was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, a loyal friend, and an unwavering source of strength for those fortunate enough to know her.

She had a special love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, Dodger, Zuko, and Willow. Ivy was also incredibly creative, channeling her talents into designing costumes, dresses, and elaborate outfits for galas, balls, and Renaissance festivals. Her imagination, warmth, and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression wherever she went.

While Ivy’s life was tragically cut short by an act of domestic violence, her legacy continues to shine brightly. As an organ donor, Ivy’s final act of selflessness helped save the lives of six people, giving hope and a second chance to families she would never meet. Even in death, she continued serving others.

Ivy is survived by her loving parents, Matthew Jellison and Amie Unruh; her cherished siblings, Alycia Babich and Thomas Perry; as well as a large extended family, fellow veterans, and countless friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

A public memorial service with full military honors will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to local domestic violence shelters or animal rescue organizations in Ivy’s honor.

Today, we remember a daughter, sister, Marine, animal lover, creator, and hero whose impact will continue to be felt for generations. Please keep Ivy’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT: CORONADO DRIVE CLOSURE UNDERWAY FOR PAVEMENT RECONSTRUCTION 🚧

Motorists in Sierra Vista should plan for delays and alternate routes over the next couple of weeks.

Coronado Drive between Avenida Cochise and Copper Dust Drive/Goldstone Street will be closed for approximately two weeks as crews complete pavement reconstruction work in the area.

Residents and visitors needing access to subdivisions south of the closure are encouraged to use Buffalo Soldier Trail as an alternate route.

City officials say the project is part of a much-needed roadway improvement effort designed to enhance driving conditions and extend the life of the roadway.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution near the work zone, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted detour signs.

🚨 NEW DETAILS RELEASED IN I-10 TROOPER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR BENSON 🚨

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) has released additional information regarding the trooper-involved shooting that occurred on Interstate 10 near Benson on May 25, 2026.

According to AZDPS, the incident began at approximately 7:57 a.m. when a Highway Patrol trooper conducting traffic enforcement observed a white 2013 Cadillac SUV traveling 95 mph in a 75 mph zone on westbound I-10 near milepost 314.

Authorities say the driver, identified as 39-year-old Berkleigh Jade Bond of Wichita Falls, Texas, provided the trooper with a false identity. During the traffic stop, the trooper allegedly discovered issues involving fictitious license plates, a false identity, and extraditable felony warrants. DPS states Bond was asked to exit the vehicle and was being taken into custody when she resisted arrest.

According to the agency, the trooper deployed his Taser, but Bond ran back to the SUV with the trooper in pursuit. DPS reports that Bond continued to resist and shifted the vehicle into drive before the trooper could regain control. Investigators say the vehicle began accelerating while the trooper was partially hanging out of it. The trooper then fired his weapon.

As the result of the weapon being fired at Bond, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

DPS also clarified that initial reports indicating the trooper was uninjured were preliminary. The trooper sustained injuries during the incident, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and is now recovering at home.

The trooper involved has 28 years of law enforcement experience.
