If it feels like your HVAC system never gets a break during Arizona's monsoon season, you're not imagining it!

Here's why your system has to work overtime:
💧 Higher humidity means your A/C isn't just cooling—it’s also removing moisture from the air.
⚡ Monsoon storms can cause power fluctuations that stress electrical components.
🍃 Dust, pollen, and debris quickly build up on outdoor coils, making it harder for your system to release heat.
⏰ All of this can lead to longer run times, increased energy bills, and additional wear and tear on your equipment.

The good news? A little preventative maintenance goes a long way!
✅ Replace your air filter regularly.
✅ Keep your outdoor unit free of leaves, weeds, and debris.
✅ Schedule seasonal maintenance to keep your system running at peak performance.
✅ Ask us about installing a whole-home surge protector to help safeguard your HVAC equipment during storm season.

Don't let monsoon weather overwork your comfort system. Stay cool, stay dry, and let Vista Pros help keep your HVAC operating at its best all summer long!

DEA INVESTIGATION IN

DEA INVESTIGATION INVOLVING COCHISE COUNTY DEPUTY FOR DRUG OFFENSES‼️

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — A federal investigation involving a Cochise County Sheriff’s deputy included court-authorized tracking of the deputy’s cellphone after concerns were raised about possible drug-related activity. The DEA now says the investigation is being closed after investigators found no evidence of drug offenses.

The investigation began after Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels contacted the Phoenix Field Division of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration regarding suspicions that a county employee could be involved in drug offenses.

As part of the investigation, a DEA special agent submitted an affidavit to Cochise County Judge Anne Borowiec on July 17 seeking a search warrant to track the deputy’s cellphone.

According to the affidavit, the agent had spoken with two Cochise County deputies in April regarding allegations that a fellow deputy may have been involved in selling cocaine both while on and off duty. Both deputies provided sworn written statements.

The affidavit also detailed information reportedly provided by one of those deputies regarding a concerned citizen. According to the information presented to the court, the citizen had raised concerns in April that the deputy appeared to be under the influence of a substance other than alcohol and allegedly offered some of the substance to the citizen.

Those claims were allegations presented as part of the investigation and warrant process.

Following additional inquiry, investigators sought authorization to use GPS and other cellphone-location technology to determine the location of the deputy’s phone for a period not exceeding 60 days.

The warrant request also included authorization to use cell-site and sector information, as well as a Signal Information Collection System. The technology can simulate a cellular tower, allowing nearby devices to connect and provide identifying and location information. The DEA agent stated in the affidavit that it would be used in a manner intended to minimize interference with devices that were not targets of the investigation.

Judge Borowiec signed the search warrant on July 17.

Despite the allegations that prompted the investigation and the subsequent investigative measures, the DEA says investigators ultimately did not uncover evidence of drug offenses.

A DEA spokesperson said Sheriff Dannels had contacted the agency about the suspicions and confirmed the agency investigated the matter. According to the DEA, the investigation is now in the process of being closed because no evidence of drug offenses was discovered.

The deputy has not been criminally charged and is not being identified in this report.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office declined to provide additional comment beyond the information provided by the DEA.

SPLIT VOTE HALTS RAM

SPLIT VOTE HALTS RAMSEY CANYON SHARED-USE PATH PROJECT

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — A proposed shared-use path project in the Ramsey Canyon area will not move forward under its planned funding agreement following a split vote by the Cochise County Board of Supervisors this week.

During the Board’s August 11, 2026 meeting, supervisors considered an intergovernmental agreement between Cochise County and the Arizona Department of Transportation related to the Newman Trail/Ramsey Canyon shared-use path project. The project was intended to expand pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure in the area and provide connections with existing multi-use paths near Sierra Vista.

The proposed project carried an estimated cost of approximately $2.2 million, with the majority expected to be covered through federal transportation funding administered through ADOT and related transportation programs.

According to planning documents, the Ramsey Canyon trail concept has been under consideration for years. Cochise County’s long-range transportation planning has previously identified a multi-use path along Ramsey Canyon Road as a potential future pedestrian facility.

The most recent proposal would have required Cochise County to enter into the agreement with ADOT in order for the project to proceed.

During Tuesday’s vote, District 2 Supervisor Kathleen Gomez voted in favor of the agreement, while District 1 Supervisor Tom Crosby voted against it. District 3 Supervisor and Board Chairman Frank Antenori was absent.

With only two supervisors present and the vote split 1-1, the agreement failed to receive the approval necessary to move forward.

The result effectively stops the project from proceeding under the proposed funding arrangement.

County officials indicated Cochise County would have been required to provide approximately $134,000 to secure the funding package. With the agreement not approved, that contribution will not be made, and there is not another vote scheduled. This decision is final.

The decision is significant because much of the project’s cost was expected to be covered by outside transportation funding rather than directly by Cochise County. With the agreement not approved, those funds will not be utilized for the Ramsey Canyon project as proposed.

This proposed project has been in the works since 2015.

The August 11 meeting was one of the Board of Supervisors’ regularly scheduled meetings for 2026.

For residents in the Ramsey Canyon, Hereford and Sierra Vista areas, the vote means the proposed expansion of the regional pedestrian and bicycle pathway network will remain on hold unless another funding or project proposal is brought forward in the future.

CoolFMLive will continue to follow the issue and provide updates if additional plans for the project are presented.

SIERRA VISTA MAKING NATIONAL HEADLINES: SENIOR HELPERS FEATURED BY READER’S DIGEST!

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — This is something our community can be proud of!

Senior Helpers Sierra Vista is receiving national attention through a feature published by Reader’s Digest, highlighting the work being done to rethink how home care reaches seniors living in some of America’s most rural and isolated communities.

The article, titled “Where the Road Ends: Tehjan Prendiville’s Mission to Reimagine Home Care for America’s Most Isolated Communities,” shines a spotlight on the challenges of providing dependable in-home care in rural areas — something especially relevant here in Southern Arizona, where distance and geography can make accessing services considerably more difficult.

And we’re especially excited to recognize that the Sierra Vista Senior Helpers team played a role in making this national feature happen!

A big congratulations goes to Lisa Metcalf, Sierra Vista Branch Manager for Senior Helpers, and the entire local team for helping bring attention to the important work being done for seniors and families in rural communities.

For organizations serving areas like Cochise County, providing home care can mean going well beyond the boundaries of a traditional city. Rural seniors may live miles from services, healthcare providers and other resources, making dependable support at home especially meaningful.

That’s why seeing Sierra Vista represented in a national publication like Reader's Digest is such an exciting accomplishment.

This isn’t just recognition for one organization — it’s another opportunity to showcase the people right here in Southern Arizona who are working every day to serve others and find solutions to challenges facing rural communities.

Congratulations to Lisa Metcalf and the entire Senior Helpers Sierra Vista team on helping make this feature possible and bringing national attention to an issue that matters deeply to rural America!

💔 FIVE TEENAGE FR

💔 FIVE TEENAGE FRIENDS KILLED IN CRASH JUST DAYS BEFORE A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Five friends. Five 17-year-old boys. Five families now facing a loss no parent should ever have to endure.

A heartbreaking tragedy in Colorado is hitting especially hard as teenagers across the country — including so many right here in Cochise County — return to school and begin another year with their friends.

Five teenage boys were killed after the vehicle they were traveling in went off a cliff and crashed into a hillside late Saturday night in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office identified the teenagers as Tristan Tucker, William Simms, Tyler Kersey-Huffman, Titus Gould and Braden Taylor. All five were just 17 years old. Three attended Grand Junction High School, while the other two also had connections to the local school district.

Instead of walking back through the doors of school with their classmates, there will now be five empty places where young men with their entire futures ahead of them should have been.

According to authorities, all five died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police said three occupants, including the driver and front-seat passenger, were wearing seat belts. Two were not and were ejected from the vehicle. Investigators have said speed may have been a factor, although the investigation remains ongoing.

As students return to Grand Junction High School, mental health professionals are being made available to students and staff as the school community begins processing an unimaginable loss.

While this tragedy happened hundreds of miles away, its message reaches every community.

Here in Cochise County, thousands of teenagers are driving themselves to school, practices, jobs and friends’ homes every day. Many are experiencing the freedom of driving for the first time.

Parents, talk to your teenagers. Teenagers, talk to your friends.

Wear your seat belt every single time. Slow down. Don’t let a friend drive dangerously. Speak up when something doesn’t feel safe. And remember that getting somewhere a few minutes sooner is never worth risking a life.

A normal night with friends can change in seconds.

Our hearts go out to the families of Tristan, William, Tyler, Titus and Braden, their friends, classmates, teachers and the entire Grand Junction community.

May these five young men be remembered not simply for how their lives ended, but for the friendships, memories and lives they shared during the 17 years they were here.

Five friends who should have been starting another school year together. Five families who will carry them in their hearts forever.
