SVPD Releases Preliminary Findings in Serious Highway 92 Collision
The Sierra Vista Police Department has released its initial findings regarding the serious traffic collision that occurred this morning, Tuesday July 28, 2026 at the intersection of Highway 92 and Buffalo Soldier Trail.
According to the Sierra Vista Police, Fire, and EMS, the following information is being released:
SVPD PRESS RELEASE: Motorist airlifted to hospital after collision
A motorist was airlifted to a Tucson hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision at the intersection of Highway 92 and Buffalo Soldier Trail this morning.
On Tuesday, July 28, at about 10:40 a.m., Sierra Vista police and fire and medical services personnel responded to an injury collision at the intersection of Highway 92 and Buffalo Soldier Trail.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a white Chevrolet pickup truck was turning left from northbound Highway 92 onto Buffalo Soldier Trail when the driver ran a red light and collided with a tow truck traveling southbound on Highway 92.
The pickup truck driver was airlifted to a Tucson hospital with life-threatening injuries. The tow truck driver was evaluated at the scene and did not require hospital transport.
This is an active investigation, and no citations have been issued at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT: Crash Shuts Down Eastbound Buffalo Soldier Trail at Highway 92 🚨
**UPDATE: All roads have been open back up**
**UPDATE: Helicopter has officially landed. Highway 92 is now being shut down in all directions at the intersection with Buffalo Soldier Trail.
Current traffic impacts include:
* Eastbound Buffalo Soldier Trail traffic is being diverted onto St. Andrews Drive.
* Northbound Highway 92 traffic is being stopped at Canyon de Flores.
* Southbound Highway 92 traffic is being stopped at St. Andrews Drive.**
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Emergency crews are currently responding to a traffic collision involving a pickup truck and a wrecker (possibly a tow truck) at the intersection of E. Buffalo Soldier Trail and S. Highway 92 in Sierra Vista.
According to initial emergency dispatch information, debris is scattered across the roadway, and eastbound Buffalo Soldier Trail is closed at St. Andrews Drive while first responders work the scene. A medical helicopter has been called in to arrive at the scene.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area, expect delays, and use alternate routes until the roadway can be safely reopened.
This is a developing incident, and additional information regarding injuries, the cause of the crash, and the expected duration of the closure has not yet been released. CoolFMLive will provide updates as more details become available.

Wind is an issue countywide, with reports of roofing ripped off of homes in Douglas and a report of a "microburst" taking off the metal porch and part of the roof at a residence in the west end of Sierra Vista, along with a report of a tree and shed falling towards a home in Bisbee as well as flooding on parts of Main Street and the traffic circle, and a power pole near Columbo in Sierra Vista arcing.
New report of a tree down on BST and Fry Blvd., part of metal roofing ripped off of a business in the 2700 block of Fry Blvd.
1500 block of 15th Street in Douglas, power pole leaning hard. APS contacted.
