🚨 BREAKING: FORMER COCHISE COUNTY DEPUTY ATTORNEY PAUL CORREA SENTENCED, NOW A CONVICTED FELON
BISBEE, Ariz. — Former Cochise County Chief Civil Deputy Attorney Paul Correa was sentenced Tuesday in Cochise County Superior Court following his guilty plea in a case involving the deletion of videos recorded of a minor in Target.
The sentencing was not handled by a Cochise County judge. The case was heard by an outside judge assigned to preside over the proceedings. The visiting judge was brought in to hear this case.
Correa was sentenced to three years of supervised probation and is now a convicted felon. Under the terms of the sentence, he will not be required to register as a sex offender.
As part of his probation, Correa must:
• Have no contact with the victim
• Complete 100 hours of community service
• Abstain from drugs and alcohol while on probation
• Undergo both a sex offender-specific mental health evaluation and a mental health evaluation
• Transfer probation supervision to Pima County
After hearing these charges, the family and members in the courtroom gasped and sighed as the ruling was not as hoped for.
The court also dismissed the previously ordered jail sentence after determining Correa had already served 79 days in custody, satisfying the incarceration requirement.
Following the hearing, Cochise County Attorney Lori Zucco said she was disappointed with the sentence, stating she believed Correa should have received at least six months in jail and that, he should have been held to a higher standard. Zucco also praised the victim for the courage it took to come forward and address the court.
Zucco noted that the presumptive prison sentence as part of probation is one year.
She also confirmed that a new investigation is currently underway, though no additional criminal case has been filed at this time.

WORK UNDERWAY ON MAJOR SIERRA VISTA GOLF CENTER WATER & ENERGY SAVINGS PROJECT 🌵☀️
Exciting changes are now underway at the Sierra Vista Golf Center as the City of Sierra Vista moves forward with a major water and energy savings project in partnership with Schneider Electric.
Construction on covered parking with solar panels begins this week, while the first phase of turf reduction is already in progress. Additional improvements, including upgrades to ponds, critical water infrastructure, and the irrigation system, are expected to begin in September. The overall project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
One of the most significant improvements includes converting 17.5 acres of irrigated turf into water-efficient landscaping. Once complete, the project is expected to conserve approximately 35 million gallons of water every year while generating more than $6 million in lifecycle savings.
The new landscape will feature a blend of xeriscaping and specially selected native vegetation designed for Sierra Vista’s climate, helping support local pollinators and wildlife while creating an attractive, sustainable environment.
During construction, visitors may notice some areas of the course looking less manicured as existing turf is removed and new vegetation is established. City officials say this is a temporary part of the transformation toward a more resilient, water-conscious landscape.
“This project demonstrates how communities can balance recreation, conservation, and fiscal responsibility,” said City Director of Parks, Recreation & Library Laura Wilson. “By reducing water use and modernizing infrastructure, we’re making an investment that will benefit Sierra Vista residents for decades to come.”
City officials and Schneider Electric say they will work to minimize disruptions and keep as much of the Golf Center accessible as possible throughout construction.
This is a major investment in the future of Sierra Vista—helping conserve one of our region’s most valuable resources while modernizing a community asset for generations to come.

FOUR PEOPLE HOSPITALIZED FOLLOWING HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SPILL FROM TRAIN DERAILMENT NEAR ARIZONA BORDER‼️
NACO, Sonora, Mexico — New information has emerged following a freight train derailment in northern Sonora that released thousands of gallons of a hazardous industrial chemical near the Arizona border. Officials now report that four people have been hospitalized following exposure related to the incident.
According to Mexican environmental authorities, the derailment occurred on July 25, 2026, approximately 10 to 15 miles south of the Naco, Arizona, border crossing. Several Ferromex freight train cars left the tracks, releasing an estimated 59,000 liters (about 15,600 gallons) of sodium hydrosulfide, a hazardous chemical commonly used in mining and other industrial processes.
Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) classified the incident as an environmental emergency. While officials initially stated that preliminary analyses indicated there was no immediate risk to the general public, subsequent reports indicate four individuals have since been hospitalized following exposure associated with the chemical release.
Emergency crews, Sonora Civil Protection personnel, environmental officials, and representatives from the companies involved responded to the derailment. Authorities previously reported that no one was injured as a direct result of the train derailment itself, though the later hospitalizations are being linked to the chemical spill.
Mexico’s National Water Commission continues collecting water and soil samples to determine whether the chemical contaminated nearby land or waterways. Environmental inspectors are also assessing the extent of any environmental damage while determining what additional cleanup efforts or enforcement actions may be required under Mexican environmental law.
Reports also indicate that residents and ranchers have filed a complaint with Mexico’s Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) seeking accountability for damages they say resulted from the incident.
At this time, no impacts have been reported on the Arizona side of the border, and no public health advisories have been issued for nearby U.S. communities. Officials continue monitoring conditions as cleanup efforts, environmental testing, and the investigation remain ongoing.
CoolFM Live will continue following this developing story and will provide updates as additional verified information becomes available, including any potential impacts to Cochise County and other Arizona border communities.

The End of an Era: Closing the Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering‼️
The Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering has ridden into history. We wrapped up our 33rd and final Gathering in February 2026, bringing to a close more than three decades of celebrating the poetry, music, and spirit of the American West.
What began in 1993 as a simple experiment—to see whether the Western genre would resonate with our community—quickly proved its worth. In those early years, audiences regularly topped 1,000, filling venues with the rhythms of cowboy verse, guitar, and fiddle. Over time, however, changing tastes and competing entertainment options drew younger generations toward other venues. Our offerings, though rich in tradition, could no longer sustain the audiences needed to keep the Gathering thriving.
To our Co-Chairs who ramrodded the Gathering over the years, a special thanks: to our founder John Shaver; to Francine Bier; to BG Roy “Bud” Strom whose organizational skills truly developed the Gathering; to Steve Conroy; Bob Fusco; Mike Barker; George Wheat; and Nancy Fusco.
To every volunteer, organizer, and friend who poured heart and hard work into making the Cochise Gathering a true success, we offer our deepest gratitude. Your support and dedication carried us through the years. We also tip our hats to the many artists—sometimes as many as fifty in a single Gathering—who shared their talents and helped establish us as one of the premier events of its kind across the United States.
May the trails ahead bring you continued success and inspiration.
To our sponsors, past and present: without your steady and generous backing, these gatherings would never have reached the scale or quality they did. You can take genuine pride in the role you played.
It is with profound sadness, yet equal pride, that the Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering Committee announces the formal closing of our Gathering. The stories, songs, and friendships forged along the way will remain part of our shared history.
Along the trail….
