📢 Have you heard of First Responders Appreciation Day? 🚨
It’s an annual tradition put on at Stan Greer Millworks every year with the help of the community!
September 23rd will be our 11th year showing our local first responders that our community appreciates the sacrifices and risks they take every day.
What does it look like?
From 11am-2pm we host the event at The Old Door Shop, right next to Stan Greer Millworks.
5930 S Hwy 92, Hereford AZ
The community comes together with volunteers to provide 150 swag bags and lunches to eat on the go, or on site if they have the time.
All first responders that sign up are entered into a raffle with tons of cool prizes from Meta glasses to gift certificates. Last year one lucky first responder won a brand new quad!
There are also games (like tug of war, relay races, or push up contests) with prizes and, of course, bragging rights.
We would love for the community to help us make it great this year as well.
If you would like to be a part of this year’s First Responders Appreciation Day there are a few ways you can help!
Remember: 100% of money and item donations go to First Responders.
Raffle items:
Last year we had 101 items to raffle off! You can donate any new item, or a gift certificate, to be raffled off.
Swag bag donations:
We are planning for 150 swag bags, so you can donate 150 small items (pens, stress balls, coupons, etc.) which can be branded with your company information to help share your business.
Monetary donations:
Any monetary donations will go toward paying for raffle items, prizes, or food for the first responders. Monetary donations of $200 or more come with extra perks to promote your business. For more information, please reach out by email at info@theolddoorshop.com
Sharing the info:
One way you can help for free is by sharing this post or letting people know about First Responders Appreciation Day. Whether they’re a first responder who can participate in receiving some cool stuff or someone who wants to give them cool stuff.
Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered and donated! We can’t do this without the support of our community. ❤️💙

🇺🇸 “I SAW IT, HEARD IT, AND FELT IT” — A BENSON MAN’S STORY OF SURVIVING SEPTEMBER 11
As Cochise County prepares to mark 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, one local man carries memories of that morning that were never learned from a history book or watched years later in a documentary.
Brian Pralgo of Benson was there.
On September 11, 2001, Brian was living in Brooklyn with his wife and their 8-month-old daughter. He worked on the 27th floor of an office building at 17 State Street in Manhattan, only blocks from the World Trade Center. From his workplace, he could see the South Tower through floor-to-ceiling windows.
That morning, Brian was supposed to leave Manhattan for a work trip to New Jersey. Had everything gone according to schedule, his car would have been passing the World Trade Center at approximately 8:45 a.m.
But coworkers were late.
His trip was delayed.
A seemingly ordinary inconvenience may have changed the course of his life.
Brian soon looked at a television monitor and saw the North Tower engulfed in flames. At first, like so many Americans that morning, those around him struggled to understand what they were witnessing.
Then came 9:03 a.m.
Brian remembers a massive shadow passing over his office and the sound of a jet engine. United Airlines Flight 175 flew directly overhead before striking the South Tower.
This time, Brian wrote, “we saw it, heard it, and felt it.”
What followed was chaos.
Brian managed to call his wife and tell her he was alive. As smoke surrounded the area and uncertainty spread through the building, Brian pushed for his floor to evacuate. He and other managers eventually came up with a simple plan: take promotional T-shirts, soak them in water and use them as makeshift masks as employees tried to escape through the smoke and debris.
But amid everything Brian remembers about that day, there are also memories of humanity.
Strangers found ways to deliver messages to terrified families when phone lines failed. Restaurants handed drinks to people fleeing Manhattan. One of Brian’s coworkers placed his wet T-shirt over a small child in a stroller to protect the child from the air, while another tore his own shirt in half so they could share what little protection they had.
Brian eventually joined thousands of people walking across the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn. Along the way, he watched teenagers helping strangers and pushing wheelchairs. Once in Brooklyn, healthcare students and teachers established makeshift triage and decontamination areas for those escaping the devastation.
And then, after everything he had witnessed, Brian finally made it home.
His wife and baby daughter were waiting outside.
He desperately wanted to embrace them—but he couldn’t. Not yet. He was covered in the dust and debris of what he had just escaped.
Only after removing his clothes and decontaminating himself could he finally hold his family again.
Twenty-five years later, thousands of miles from Manhattan, Brian now lives here in Benson, Arizona. But September 11 is not simply a date on a calendar for him.
It is the memory of a beautiful blue-sky morning that became unimaginable.
It is the coworkers he walked beside.
It is the strangers who helped strangers.
It is the people he would never see again.
It is the memory of finally coming home and holding his wife and infant daughter after wondering whether he would ever have that opportunity again.
Brian ended his account acknowledging that there is still much more he could tell—the horror, the people he never saw again and the difficult weeks that followed.
This is one Cochise County resident’s story of September 11, 2001.
Tomorrow, as our communities gather to remember 25 years since that terrible day, Brian’s story is a reminder that behind every photograph, every name and every ceremony are real people whose lives were forever divided into before September 11 and after.
To Brian, thank you for trusting our community with a memory this personal.
To those who never made it home, to the families who waited for a loved one who would never walk through the door, and to the first responders and ordinary people who ran toward others when every instinct said to run away:
We remember you.
25 years later, we still remember. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 COCHISE COUNTY COMMUNITIES TO HONOR 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11
Tomorrow, Friday, September 11, 2026, communities across Cochise County will come together to remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
This year marks 25 years since 9/11, a day that forever changed our nation. Local ceremonies will provide opportunities for residents to gather, reflect, and honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives, along with the first responders and others who risked or gave their lives to help those in need.
Memorial events are planned in communities across Cochise County, including Douglas, Tombstone, and Sierra Vista, with ceremonies taking place throughout the day. The public is encouraged to attend and join local first responders, veterans, community organizations, and residents in remembrance. Douglas and Sierra Vista have publicly announced ceremonies for Friday.
No matter where you choose to gather, September 11 remains a day to remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call to serve, and recognize the courage and sacrifice demonstrated in the hours, days, and years that followed.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸
This honorable post is brought to you by American Southwest Credit Union, Vista Pros Heating & Cooling, Desert Rv, Ed Morse Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Sierra Vista. Cochise County thanks each and every one of those who serve our country every day!

TWO WEST NILE VIRUS CASES CONFIRMED IN COCHISE COUNTY‼️
Cochise County Health and Social Services announced Thursday, Sept. 10, that two human cases of West Nile Virus have been confirmed by a state laboratory, with an additional probable case reported in and around the Sierra Vista area.
West Nile Virus is transmitted to people primarily through the bite of an infected mosquito. Health officials are encouraging residents throughout Cochise County to take precautions to reduce their exposure to mosquitoes.
Residents are advised to use EPA-approved insect repellent when outdoors, wear loose-fitting long sleeves and pants when possible, eliminate standing water around homes and properties, maintain yards, and ensure swimming pools are properly treated.
According to county health officials, symptoms generally develop two to six days after infection and may include headache, weakness, muscle and joint pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, and rash. More serious cases can result in severe neurological illness, including paralysis or coma, and can be fatal.
Residents should also regularly check areas where water can collect, including buckets, flowerpots, tires, pet dishes, gutters, and other outdoor containers, as standing water can provide breeding areas for mosquitoes.
Cochise County Health and Social Services says it is actively addressing the situation and will continue providing updates as additional information becomes available.
CoolFMLive will continue following the situation and provide additional information as it becomes available.

‼️TWO JUVENILES ARRESTED FOLLOWING CANYON DE FLORES VEHICLE BURGLARY INVESTIGATION‼️
The Sierra Vista Police Department announced that two juvenile suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries reported in the Canyon de Flores neighborhood.
According to SVPD, 12 vehicles were targeted during the burglary spree. The investigation included home security footage, surveillance video from a local gas station, community tips, and search warrants that ultimately led investigators to identify two suspects.
The following is the Sierra Vista Police Department’s press release, quoted in its entirety:
“Two juvenile suspects were arrested Tuesday night in connection with a vehicle burglary spree.
On Monday, Sept. 7, the Sierra Vista Police Department responded to multiple reports of vehicle burglaries in the Canyon de Flores neighborhood. Given the number of incidents, SVPD encouraged residents to check their vehicles and report any missing items or damage.
A total of twelve vehicles were targeted in this series of burglaries. Most of the vehicles were left unsecured, and one showed signs of attempted hotwiring.
During the investigation, police gathered valuable information from home security camera footage, which captured images of the suspects and helped to establish a timeline and the route they took. Additionally, surveillance from a local gas station provided further evidence in the case.
Thanks to community engagement and tips received after social media outreach, investigators were able to follow leads that led to the identification of the suspects and the execution of search warrants.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, Sierra Vista police arrested two juveniles in connection with the burglaries. The juveniles have been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on twelve counts of vehicle burglary and one count of attempted theft of a means of transportation. Their genders and identities will not be disclosed in accordance with juvenile privacy laws.
“We appreciate the community’s assistance in this investigation,” Sierra Vista Police Chief Chris Hiser says. “Resident involvement was critical in the identification and apprehension of the suspects.”
If anyone has additional information, please contact the Sierra Vista Police Department at (520) 452-7500.”
