Residents across Cochise County are being warned about a new scam involving fraudulent text messages falsely claiming recipients are facing court action.

According to local officials, these messages often state that you are “subject to court proceedings with the Maricopa County Municipal Court” and may include a QR code.

⚠️ This message is a scam.

There is no such entity as the Maricopa County Municipal Court, and no legitimate court or law enforcement agency will ever notify you of legal matters through text messages, emails, or QR codes.

In Cochise County, official court notifications are delivered only through in-person service by a law enforcement officer or deputy. This is the only legitimate method of receiving notice regarding court proceedings.

🚨 UPDATE: One Suspect Comes Forward in Reported Attempted Kidnapping Case 🚨

The Sierra Vista Police Department has released new information regarding the April 30, 2026 reported attempted kidnapping incident in a local neighborhood.

According to officials, one of the individuals involved has now come forward, and the case remains under active investigation.

Below is the full official press release provided by the Sierra Vista Police Department:

“Attempted kidnapping suspect comes forward

Sierra Vista, AZ. 05/01/26. A suspect in Thursday’s report of an attempted kidnapping has come forward.

On Thursday, April 30, at about 4:11 p.m., officers responded to a report of an attempted kidnapping near the area of Camino del Vara and Camino Bella Rosa. An elementary-aged juvenile reported that two male teenagers offered her candy and then attempted to kidnap her. One was in the driver’s seat while the other was in the bed of the truck.

During the investigation, officers learned that the juvenile was out playing with her siblings in the neighborhood at the time of the incident. When her siblings were around the corner and out of view, a dark gray pickup truck drove out of the field to the west of the neighborhood.

The juvenile said that a teenager riding in the truck bed called her explicit names and then stated, “I have candy.” Reportedly, he then acted like he was going to climb out of the truck bed, at which point the juvenile girl screamed and ran towards her siblings. She said the driver never spoke to her, and the teenagers in the truck then left the area.

It was confirmed that neither teenager exited the vehicle nor touched the child, and there were no injuries reported or medical attention required.

A citizen who lives nearby later provided home surveillance footage to police of a dark gray truck passing his residence. The video did not capture driver details or a license plate. However, one of the suspects came forward on Friday and provided a statement and information on the other suspect, saying that the incident was a misunderstanding and not an attempted kidnapping.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information about the suspects or the incident is asked to contact Officer Joshua Colon at (520) 452-7500.”

🚨 BREAKING: Police Investigating Reported Attempted Kidnapping in Sierra Vista 🚨

Sierra Vista Police are actively investigating a reported attempted kidnapping that occurred Thursday afternoon.

According to information provided by SVPD, officers responded at approximately 4:11 p.m. to the area near Camino del Vara and Camino Bella Rosa following a report involving a juvenile female.

The girl told officers that two males, described as approximately 17 years old, approached her and offered her candy before attempting to pull her into a dark gray Ford pickup truck. She reported that one suspect was driving the vehicle while the other was in the bed of the truck.

The juvenile was able to break away, get to safety, and contact police. The suspect vehicle fled the area prior to officers arriving.

🚓 At this time:
* Officers remain in the area actively investigating
* Police are searching for the suspect vehicle
* No arrests have been reported

SVPD advises that more information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate.

Our Science Night is designed to be a fun, hands-on experience that brings students and families together to explore science in an engaging and interactive way. The event will feature a variety of experiment stations for all grade levels, allowing participants to move throughout the space and take part in different activities.

One of the main goals of our Science Night is to show families that science can be simple, affordable, and done at home. All of the experiments we will be offering use materials that are either budget-friendly or commonly found in most households, such as baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, and other everyday items. We want students to leave the event excited about science and confident that they can recreate these activities at home with their families during the summer.

In addition to the experiment stations, we will also have a dedicated food area called the Snack Lab Station. This area will feature a variety of science-themed snacks and drinks, including items like “Atomic Popcorn,” “Citrus Solution” lemonade, and “Plasma Punch.” The goal is to create a fun and immersive experience where even the food connects to the theme of science.

We are also excited to partner with Julie and Sammy’s Ice Cream, who will be bringing their 42-foot trailer, The Munchie Machine. They will offer additional food options, including ice cream, snow cones, and beverages, providing families with even more to enjoy throughout the evening.
