TRAFFIC INCREASES ACROSS MOST COCHISE COUNTY HIGHWAYS
COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — Traffic increased across most of Cochise County’s highway system in 2025, according to recently released Arizona Department of Transportation data, while projections point to continued growth through 2045.
Of 112 roadway segments analyzed, 94 — or 83.9% — carried more traffic than in 2024. Only 18 segments recorded declines.
Interstate 10 near Benson remained the busiest corridor in Cochise County. The section between Skyline Road and State Route 90 carried 34,617 vehicles per day, up 0.9% from 2024. Overall, 20 of the 21 I-10 segments analyzed recorded increases.
Some of the largest changes occurred along SR-90. Between North Moson Road and SR-80, traffic increased from 3,928 vehicles per day in 2024 to 7,509 in 2025 — a 91.2% increase.
In Sierra Vista, SR-90 between Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and SR-92 increased 18.1%, reaching 21,706 vehicles per day.
Meanwhile, SR-92 showed a different trend, with traffic declining on nine of 13 segments analyzed. Between East Glenn and East Ramsey roads, traffic fell 14.8%, while several sections within Sierra Vista recorded decreases ranging from approximately 9% to 12%.
The largest individual decline countywide occurred along US-191 Business Route in Douglas, between the Douglas Port of Entry and East Fifth Street. Traffic dropped from 10,816 vehicles per day to 7,317 — a 32.4% decrease.
Looking ahead, ADOT projects traffic will increase on all 112 segments analyzed by 2045. Several portions of SR-92 that declined in 2025 are projected to see renewed growth, including a 14.2% increase between Foothills Drive and Snyder Boulevard.
The data shows traffic patterns shifting across Cochise County, with overall growth across most highways despite notable declines along several individual corridors.

‼️BORDER PATROL APPREHENDS 10 FOLLOWING SUSPECTED SMUGGLING EVENT IN DOUGLAS‼️
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Ten individuals were apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Douglas following a suspected smuggling event involving a pickup truck that authorities say was displaying fictitious U.S. Government license plates and U.S. Forest Service decals.
The incident began after personnel at the Douglas Station Tactical Operations Center observed a pickup truck make a quick turnaround near the border. Border Patrol agents continued tracking the truck through surveillance technology and later attempted to conduct a vehicle stop.
The driver fled from agents before abandoning the truck in an alley.
During a search of the surrounding area, agents found 10 individuals hiding near a vacant lot. Border Patrol identified the individuals as illegal aliens.
The 10 individuals were taken to the Douglas Station, where they were processed under Tucson Sector guidelines.
Authorities identified the vehicle as a white 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck will be processed for seizure.
No additional information was provided regarding the driver or the circumstances surrounding the suspected smuggling event.

BOMB THREAT AT BENSON TRACTOR SUPPLY: At approximately 2:00 pm Tuesday 10/06/2026 an individual approached a citizen at Tractor Supply in Benson, stating she was a government agent and she was going to do harm to individuals, to include having a bomb in her vehicle. The citizen called 911 and benson police responded. Due to the nature of the threats, the officers detained the individual and called out the Cochise co sheriffs office bomb squad and FBI. No bomb was located in the vehicle. After interviewing the subject by the FBI and benson police, the individual was placed in custody and transported to a facility that specializes in mental health. The scene was cleared with no other incident.

BENSON, Ariz. — CoolFMLive is publishing the full available body-worn camera footage from the May 25, 2026 Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Berkleigh Jade Bond on Interstate 10 near Benson.
Full permission has been obtained to publish the footage.

The video contains body cam footage documenting the encounter and the moments surrounding the fatal shooting. CoolFMLive has blacked out portions of the video when shots are fired and when blood is visible. The remaining footage and audio are being presented without interruption.
Bond’s dog was also struck by gunfire during the encounter and survived.
The release of the full footage provides additional information about the sequence of events immediately before and during the shooting, including the timing of the first gunshot in relation to the movement of Bond’s vehicle.
In a June 2 statement describing the incident, DPS stated:
“Bond continued to resist, and before the trooper could regain control, Bond shifted the vehicle into drive and began accelerating, with the trooper partially hanging out of the vehicle. The trooper fired at Bond, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.”
According to reports concerning the body-camera footage, Bond’s Cadillac had not begun moving forward when the initial shot was fired. That shot reportedly struck Bond in the thigh and also struck her dog in the face.
The vehicle reportedly began moving forward after the initial shot and remained in forward motion for approximately four seconds.
CoolFMLive is including the DPS account and the subsequently reported sequence to accurately reflect the information currently available. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain the subject of legal proceedings, and no determination is being made in this report regarding whether the trooper’s use of deadly force was legally justified.
According to DPS, the incident began at approximately 7:57 a.m. May 25 when a Highway Patrol trooper conducting traffic enforcement observed Bond driving a white 2013 Cadillac SUV at 95 mph in a 75-mph zone on westbound Interstate 10 near milepost 314, northeast of Benson.
DPS said Bond provided the trooper with a false identity. The agency reported that the trooper attempted to take Bond into custody for fictitious license plates, providing a false identity and extraditable felony warrants.
According to DPS, Bond resisted arrest. The trooper deployed a Taser, and Bond ran back to her vehicle with the trooper in pursuit. The encounter continued at the vehicle before the shooting occurred.
On October 4, Litster Dugwyler PLLC, the law firm representing Bond’s children, issued a statement following its review of body-camera footage provided by DPS in response to a public records request.
The firm stated:
“The footage is disturbing, and it reveals critical omissions from DPS’s account of the shooting.”
Regarding the possibility of the footage circulating publicly, the firm stated:
“We ask the public to remember that Berkleigh was a mother whose children are still grieving.”
The firm also stated:
“Litster Dugwyler calls on DPS to publish all its policies, procedures, training standards, general orders, and field orders on its website, in a place the public can easily find and review. These should include its policies on de-escalation and use of deadly force. Arizonans have a right to know the rules DPS troopers are expected to follow”
Regarding its investigation and potential future litigation, the firm stated:
“Our focus now is to hold DPS and its trooper accountable and to secure justice for Berkleigh and her children.”
The statements from Litster Dugwyler represent the position of attorneys representing Bond’s family. They are not findings by a court or an independent determination that the trooper or DPS acted unlawfully.
The body-camera footage is being published because of the significant public interest surrounding a fatal law-enforcement encounter and the ongoing legal proceedings related to Bond’s death.
Because the video documents the final moments of a person’s life, viewer discretion is strongly advised. CoolFMLive has chosen not to show the portions depicting gunfire or visible blood.

**UPDATE: Roadway is now open**
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Emergency crews are currently on scene of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist near South Moorman Avenue and East Fry Boulevard in Sierra Vista.
The incident was reported at approximately 3:26 p.m. Monday, October 5.
First responders are actively working the scene at this time. Motorists and members of the public are asked to avoid the area when possible and give emergency personnel adequate room to safely respond.
Drivers traveling through the surrounding area should use caution and be prepared for possible traffic impacts while crews remain on scene.
The condition of the bicyclist and the circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known.
